The Department recently launched a Culture Change initiative in East London, with a focus on aligning departmental values and standards to achieve its vision. The event was well-attended by DPWI Senior Management Service (SMS) members and marked the beginning of a new chapter for the department.

The launch was facilitated by Mahlubandile Qwase: Deputy Director General from the Office of the Premier who, in his opening remarks, emphasized the importance of adapting to change as the department moves into its seventh term of administration.

These sentiments were also echoed by the Head of Department Thandolwethu Manda who reminded management and staff of the need for all to embrace change. “Change is the constant objective truth,” said Manda.

The session was also attended by MEC Siphokazi Lusithi.  In her address to the SMS members, she underscored the significance of leadership in driving Culture Change.

“This initiative is a pivotal moment in our collective efforts to exceed the expectations of the people we serve,” she said. Lusithi encouraged all members to lead by example and actively participate in shaping the department’s organizational culture.

Zithulele Cele from the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) presented the Public Service Charter (PSC), outlining its objectives and legal mandate. He urged the department to prioritize the implementation of the PSC and Batho Pele Standards, emphasizing the importance of compliance and service standards.

The program concluded with a recommitment ceremony, where public servants pledged to uphold the values of PSC. Director of Organisational Development, Thandile Samela, emphasized the need for ethical conduct and alignment of personal values with those of the DPWI.

NEHAWU representative, Andile Mthatyane, offered words of support, reminding public servants of their responsibility to protect and represent the department’s brand.

In closing, MEC Lusithi expressed confidence in the leadership team and their ability to bring about meaningful change. “Listen to everyone, lead them well,” she urged.
