Public Works is currently renovating the Port St Johns library on behalf of Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSRAC). The project commenced beginning of this year 2019 and is expected to run until 2020.
The project aims to help Port St Johns community school pupils to have access to educational resources easily especially Grade 12 students.
Chief Quantity Surveyor, Andile Mazwi, said “This is one of the projects that is done in-house and is led by Thandolwethu Mfuku, the Principal Agent. Sivuyile Kana is the Architect of the Project and we took a robust approach by not appointing Consultants instead use in-house professionals in doing the work. Electrical services were done internally along with health and safety by Khuliswa Thwana and Nothemba Ngqumshe, respectively”.
Mazwi emphasised that these projects are run under New Works General, which are almost 90%-95% done internally. He added that the contractor that is responsible for this project is SNZN construction and the budget allocated is 4.9 million. Project is still under construction.
“We have media centers where students can easily access the internet other than reading physical books. There is also the availability of newspapers which students can use to keep themselves updated about the current news affairs” concluded Mazwi.
