As part of Mandela Month Department of Public Works and Infrastructure visited Tabase Primary School in Buhlungwane Village, a deep rural area of Qumbu.
The purpose of the visit was to donate school shoes and sanitary towels to learners of Tabase Primary School and Sikhobeni Senior Primary School.
Kosie Madolo, School Principal said, “We are very delighted by the department’s visit, that means we are a visible school, but as the school, we have challenges that as you have seen where the school is situated, it has bad roads leading to learners walking long distances to school. On rainy days, vehicles transporting learners break all the time because of bad conditions. Some learners arrive late or do not come to school at all. Not only it affects learners, but some teachers also leave our school, as they are not receiving rural incentive”.
“To you learners of Tabase Primary School I say please receive our small gift (shoes and sanitary towels) and share them with Sikhobeni Senior Primary School. Therefore, we do not want you to walk barefooted as it is cold in the winter season “said Sibongile Sotshongaye (Chief of staff).
In closing, the Chief of Staff said “The children are our future, I value them, therefore let us invest in them”. In trying to intervene in challenges encountered by the school, he advised them to write a letter to
