The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure has invested at least R250 million Rands for the construction and refurbishment of office accommodation in Komani Office Park, Queenstown, Chris Hani Region.

“The department as a nerve centre for infrastructure delivery has a mandate to provide office accommodation to Provincial Departments so as to reduce lease expenditure and provide a one stop shop for ease of access by the citizens” said Zamile Kalako, Head of the Chris Hani Region.

Two (2) departments: Education and Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture(DSRAC) are the last departments to occupy this contemporary three (3) storey building in Komani Office Park.

“The structure, situated in the office complex along the N6 from Cathcart, has 160 offices; one (1)) server room; 14 storerooms; six (6) boardrooms, one (1) network room and a reception area with waiting space for visitors. The total value of the project was R124 million Rands” confirmed Talita Gusha, Head of Buildings in the Chris Hani Region.

The Regional Manager for the Department of Education: West, Nicky De Bruyn, expressed his joy on the completion of the building: “It was worth the wait. It has been quite a journey. We have reached our destination: a building that we are excited to occupy with all its necessary facilities like the boardrooms which we did not have in our old building.”

In the same office compound, are the refurbished offices of the Department of Health completed in 2008; Departments of Economic Development and Environmental Affairs(DEDEAT), Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs(COGTA), Human Settlements and a conference facility completed in 2011. The Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform’s occupancy was in 2018 to the value of R40 million Rands.
