MEC for Public Works, Infrastructure and Human Settlements, Siphokazi Lusithi recently conducted an oversight visit to the Emaxesibeni Office Precinct in Alfred Nzo District, Mount Ayliff. The project, which is anticipated to be completed by February 2027, is a key initiative aimed at fast-tracking service delivery and ensuring infrastructure services reach all communities, including those in rural areas.

As the nerve centre of infrastructure in the province, the department is committed to promoting local economic development in the Umzimvubu Local Municipality and Ntabankulu Local Municipality. The project has created significant opportunities for Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) in the district.

Local businesses have benefited contracts in various sectors, such as security services, water supply, sand supply, toilet services, plastering, fire detection systems, office furniture, retaining walls, paving and landscaping. These opportunities have allowed local businesses to engage in multiple aspects of the project, thereby contributing to the economic upliftment and growth of the district.

In addition to fostering economic development, the project has created thirty-five (35) jobs for residents. The workforce equity comprises nine (9) men, five (5) women, twenty-one (21) youth and one (1) person with a disability.  They are being offered with remarkable work experience and stipend.

Furthermore, the project has prioritised skills development by providing training to twenty-one (21) individuals. This training includes three (3) interns, three (3) graduates, two (2) individuals in Infrastructure Service Delivery (ISD), one (1) in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), one (1) in Environmental Management (Enviro) and ten (10) artisans.

These training opportunities are equipping participants with professional skills and expertise, enhancing their employability and contributing to their long-term career growth. This project has a significant impact on both immediate job creation and the sustainable development of the local workforce. MEC Lusithi expressed her gratitude to the project team of Emaxesibeni Office Precinct, stating, “Continue with the momentum and you are making us proud on equity.  Well done and we are looking forward on coming back, as this will not be the last time.”
